Air Core Solenoid – 710 Turn, 3 to 5A – Our Air Core Solenoid provides a useful magnetic field for many experiments in magnetism and electricity. It is often used in PSSC Physics for investigations using the Mass of Electron Apparatus and experiments using the Current Balance. Our Air Core Solenoid is constructed using 4 layers, approximately 710 turns, of #23 gauge (0.67 mm) polyurethane enameled copper wire. This coil is designed to carry 7-10 amperes intermittently and will sustain a current of 5 amps.
To use: connect a power supply that does not put out more than 5 amps to the solenoid, with the positive lead at one terminal and the negative lead at the other terminal. The coil will generate a magnetic field when current passes through it.
By using a compass, iron rod, or iron filings, students can study the nature of the electric field generated by this simple electromagnet. Overall Length 14cm, Ends 7.5 cm Square. POWER SUPPLY for SCHOOLS 1035411A 0-12v 2v steps 5.5A Overload cut out.
